ABOUT TODD THICKE
Early Life
Thicke studied English Literature at University of Western Ontario in London and York University in Toronto. After moving to LA, Thicke quickly established himself as to the go-to guy for innovative television, writing and producing many specials and series including Growing Pains, Animal Crack-Ups, New Candid Camera, ABC’s Into the Night, and America’s Funniest Home Videos. He is brother to actor Alan Thicke, uncle to music superstar Robin Thicke and resides in LA with his wife and 2 children.
Career Highlights
As Executive Producer of the 25 year hit America’s Funniest Videos, Todd Thicke has grown the show from pilot to network juggernaut. He has served in many positions; most notably as the head writer and executive producer, as well as writer, co-producer, and co-executive producer. AFV has shot nearly 600 episodes, and has travelled all over the world for Disney Parks and Resorts, DCL Cruise Lines, and Vacation Club. It is currently syndicated in over 50 countries and is the longest running show in ABC history. In addition are 25 versions customized for their distinct audiences all over the globe.
Thicke has also overseen hours of animated programming including Dennis the Menace, Nickelodeon’s Pelswick and Quads. He is the composer of numerous TV theme songs, including Split Second and Let’s Make a Deal.
Since the founding of Team Thicke, Todd has been successfully developing programming for networks and studios on both sides of the Canadian/American border.
In 2017, Team Thicke entered into deals with Bell Media in Canada, and Wilshire Studios, the unscripted division of NBC/Universal cable. In 2018, Thicke and Vickers created and produced "Feast of a Lifetime[2]" for Bell Media. Starring celebrity chef Lynn Crawford (Pitchin' In) everyday heroes were surprised with a spectacular feast when the entire community showed up to celebrate their accomplishments.
In addition to working with MGM, Thicke also worked with Prospero Pictures on "World's Funniest Families", where precocious kids weighed in on hot button topics of the day and offered surprising words of wisdom. Thicke is also Executive Consultant on "This Week Live", Canada's Late Night Show, streaming nationally across the country.
In 2024, Thicke joined forces with producer and playwright Richard Klagsbrun on Klagsbrun's musical extravaganza, This Strange Paradise, that premiered at the El Mocambo in Toronto.
Recognition
An Emmy and Gemini award nominee, Thicke’s pilot script for AFV is on permanent display in the Smithsonian.
Thicke has served two terms on the Steering Committee for the Caucus of Producers, Writers and Directors and has spoken at numerous industry panels including The Paley Center, The TV Academy and NATPE. He serves on the Advisory Council of the School for Advanced Studies of Arts and Humanities at the University of Western Ontario, the Advisory Committee of George Brown College Screenwriting & Narrative Design Program, the Youth Advisory Board for the P.A.R.T.I Program, and the Mentorship Program for the Hollywood Radio and TV Society.
